Judo techniques for beginners

Starting any new sport can be daunting and even more so if it's a contact sport such as Judo.
So, if your considering starting Judo you have to think about one or two important things before setting foot on the Judo mat (Tatami)
The most important thing to consider is

Are you injury free.?

By that I mean, are you generally in good health with no conditions that could be aggravated and worsened by training in Judo.
Because... trust me, you will get hurt at some point and be with plagued silly little injuries. So no point starting out with injuries that are only going to get worse.
Obviously, there's no point even considering training in Judo if you are injured in some way.

Remember, Judo's not for pussies

If your in any doubt, then go see your doctor, who will, of course, tell you not to do it.
Just about all doctors will tell you not to do Judo..!

But then again they would tell you that breathing was dangerous and not to do it if there was any chance of them being sued.
My personal opinion of course, but I'm sure 99% of the nation would agree with that.

Are you fit.?
All forms of Judo Techniques and Judo Training can be very strenuous and require each student to have a high level of fitness.
I have seen 'so called' fit men throw up after only the warm up.!!!
The various Judo techniques for beginners will, of course, be toned down a lot and you wont be expected to train anything like a seasoned Judoka, but, never the less, you will still need to be quite fit to start and get the best out of your new sport.
There are specific 'workouts for Judo' designed to increase your levels of fitness and stamina specifically for students who train in Judo.

In conclusion, Judo's not ballet dancing. It's a full  on contact sport that require a high level of fitness  suppleness and strength. So it's important to check your own fitness levels first before even stepping onto a Judo mat.
My advice to any new student:
Go down to your local Judo club - sit and watch a couple of sessions, get a feel for the type of training they do there and imagine yourself training in the same way.

Could you do it.?
